The Mouth of the Chattering Burn is a one-of-one, 53-year-old Aberlour created for the 2025 Distillers One of One charity auction. Its name comes from the traditional Gaelic meaning of “Aberlour.” The whisky was distilled in 1967, matured for more than half a century in a single cask, and first transferred into glass in 2020 at 45% ABV before being specially rebottled for the 2025 auction. It is the oldest Aberlour expression released to date.
The whisky is housed in a 1.5-liter handblown magnum decanter created by Swedish master glassblower Micke Johansson with master mould-maker Gunnar Englund. Glass artist Simon Holm carved the flowing surface design. Its presentation display repurposes the original hand-carved wooden mould used to form the decanter, making the vessel and display a unique work that will not be repeated. The auction lot also included a separate 100 mL tasting sample.

This was a one-of-one charity-auction release and therefore had no conventional MSRP or normal store price. Sotheby’s placed the presale estimate between £20,000 and £40,000. The winning hammer price was £48,000, while the reported final purchase price was £60,000 after applicable auction premiums. The sale established a new auction record for Aberlour. Because only one example exists, there is no repeatable retail or secondary-market range.
Flavor Profile
An exceptionally mature and fruit-rich Speyside single malt opening with ripe black cherries, fresh strawberries, orange zest, crushed violets, and orange blossom. The palate develops creamy vanilla, buttery honeyed sponge cake, earthy licorice, toasted almonds, golden honey, rich vanilla fudge, and smooth milk chocolate, lifted by seasoned raspberry and bright tangerine. The finish is remarkably smooth, sweet, and persistent, leaving lingering red fruit, citrus, vanilla, honey, chocolate, toasted nuts, and softly seasoned oak.
