Aberlour 17-Year-Old 2023 Distillery Reserve Collection is a limited cask-finished edition distilled on March 6, 2006 and bottled on September 12, 2023. After its initial maturation, the whisky spent seven years finishing in second-fill French oak from the Limousin region. It was bottled at natural cask strength of 58.7% ABV without chill filtration. Only 600 individually numbered 500 mL bottles were produced from finishing cask No. 21.
The extended Limousin-oak finish distinguishes this release from Aberlour’s usual bourbon-and-sherry maturation style. French oak adds firmer tannins, warming spice, marzipan, coconut, caramel, and a slightly drying wood character. A rich and oak-driven Speyside single malt opening with ripe strawberry, rhubarb tart, poached pear, baked apple, marzipan, caramel, and toasted French oak. The finish is long, firm, and gently drying, leaving sweet cinnamon, marzipan, caramelized fruit, toasted nuts, pepper, and lingering Limousin-oak tannins.
